Streetscape working group meets on September 22
Rehoboth Beach’s Wilmington Avenue / Baltimore Cityscape Working Group will meet virtually at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22.
The agenda includes an update on the streetscape workshop scheduled for Wednesday, September 29. Officials from the Delaware Department of Transportation and the Federal Highways Administration are expected to be present at the workshop. Two Rehoboth Beach meetings canceled
Two Rehoboth Beach meetings scheduled for Monday, September 27 have been canceled. The first, set for 10 a.m., was the Parks and Shade Trees Commission. The reason given was the lack of items on the agenda. The second, set for 2:30 p.m., was an adjustment commission hearing. According to a notice sent by the city, it was canceled due to insufficient documentation.
Lewes Public Art Committee to Meet
The Lewes Public Art Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, at Town Hall and via Zoom. The group will discuss the removal of temporary projects at Canalfront Park and George HP Smith Park.
They will also discuss a community meeting regarding the role of public art, the community’s response to this year’s projects and an art walk scheduled for Wednesday, November 3. Lewes Subdivision Code Sub-Committee meets September 22
The Lewes Planning Commission Subdivision Code Subcommittee will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, at Town Hall and via Zoom. Beebe to host Virtual Town Hall on September 22
Beebe Healthcare will hold a COVID-19 town hall from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22. Dr David A. Tam, President and CEO, and Bill Chasanov, Medical Director of Beebe’s COVID-19 Response, will share updates on the latest cases, hospitalizations and information on the COVID-19 vaccine.

Dewey Commissioners hold organizational meeting on September 25
The Dewey Beach Commissioners will hold their organizational meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25 at the Lifeboat Station, 1 Dagsworthy Avenue. Three new commissioners will be sworn in, and the commissioners will vote to appoint the mayor and city secretary for a one-year term each.
DelDOT installs a flashing light in a consortium
The Delaware Department of Transportation’s Traffic Construction Section, working with Byers Electrical, will install a dynamic school speed limit warning system with turn signals on Sweetbriar Road at the Sussex Consortium school.
The new “on flash” system will increase the current schools speed limit to 20 mph along Sweetbriar Road near the school. The work will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays from Monday, September 20 until mid-October. There will be daytime lane closures with flaggers to direct motorists.
Cape school board meets on September 23
The Cape Henlopen School Board will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 23 at HO Brittingham Elementary School.
The board will take possible action on the Shields Elementary Phase 2 demo and site package, COVID-19 leave extension and a memorandum of understanding with the Cape Henlopen Education Association. An update on the number of units and the class size waiver will be presented.
Dewey Infrastructure Committee to Meet
The Dewey Beach Infrastructure Committee will meet at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 27 at the Lifeboat Station, 1 Dagsworthy Avenue.
Members may vote to approve a proposal from Remington & Vernick Engineers to resolve the drainage issues on Houston Street and to recommend acceptance by the Commissioners.
Another vote may be taken to approve a change order for the pipe cleaning at Read Avenue and to recommend acceptance by the Stewards.
Milton approves search for grant for Magnolia Street
Milton City Council authorized General Manager Kristy Rogers to request $ 150,000 in state grants for proposed bulkhead repairs and work to alleviate drainage issues on Magnolia Street. The grant would come from the 2021 Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Trails Grants from the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
The city has already received $ 300,000 from the state bond bill and $ 235,000 in grants from DNREC for the $ 838,000 project, which will repair the bulkhead along the Broadkill River and install better drainage systems. in the parking lot on rue Magnolia.
The project is estimated to cost in 2020, and city officials estimate the cost of materials will be higher by the time construction bids are received.
Sussex honors Workman, Hudson
At its September 14 meeting, Sussex County Council paid tribute to former Sussex County Adjustment Council members Brent Workman, who served from 2002 to 2021, and Jeff Hudson, who served as 1998 to 2017. The presentation of the plaques was a retired planner and zoning director Lawrence Lank, chairman of the board Mike Vincent and county administrator Todd Lawson.
Creative Market Gets Sussex Approval
West Rehoboth Creative Market has received approval from Sussex County Council for conditional use to operate an outdoor market with offsite parking.
The market, which features local artisans, was held Monday evenings at 19897 Hebron Road and 19826 Central Ave.
At the September 14 council meeting, on the recommendation of District 2 City Councilor Doug Hudson, hours were extended from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week to give organizers more options.
