The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced Wednesday that it recommends that everyone wear a mask indoors, regardless of an individual’s immunization status.
The department’s update comes a day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) changed their mask guidelines in response to the increase in coronavirus cases.

The CDC has called on all those vaccinated in high transmission areas to wear a mask indoors, restoring previous pandemic restrictions.
“The Delta variant has caused a sharp increase in hospitalizations and case rates statewide,” CDPH director Dr Tomás Aragón said on Wednesday. “We recommend masking in indoor public places to slow the spread while continuing our efforts to get more Californians vaccinated. “
The CDPH said the new statewide measures were being put in place because “90 percent” of the state’s population resides in high-transmission areas defined by the CDC.
The United States has seen an increase of almost 47% in the number of reported coronavirus cases in the past seven days, according to CDC data.
The highly contagious Delta variant is responsible for about 83% of all COVID cases in the United States, according to the CDC.
As coronavirus cases are on the rise again in 90% of U.S. jurisdictions, a resurgence of mask warrants is being imposed by the federal government in a bid to slow the spread.

The latest CRPD announcement is not a warrant, although California this week became the first state to require all state and healthcare employees to provide proof of vaccination or be tested weekly. .
“We are now facing an unvaccinated pandemic, and more efforts will be needed to protect Californians from the dangerous Delta variant,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said Tuesday.
“As the state’s largest employer, we are leading by example and requiring all state and healthcare workers to show proof of vaccination or be tested regularly, and we encourage local governments and businesses to do the same. “

California has distributed more shots than any other state with more than 44 million doses administered and about 75 percent of the state’s eligible population having received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Children under 12 have not yet been approved to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
