Newton’s Republicans to host Covington Candidates Forum on October 19

COVINGTON, Georgia. – As advance voting kicks off on Tuesday, the Newton County Republican Party recently announced it will host a forum featuring candidates for the Covington municipal election.

“We invite the community to join us for this event to hear from the candidates and ask questions related to the upcoming election,” said an announcement letter.

The forum will take place on October 19 at 7 p.m. inside The Reserve At Hendricks, located at 1149 Hendrick St. in Covington. Newton’s Republicans are calling the forum a “non-partisan” event.

There are only two contested races for seats on Covington City Council.

City Councilor Susie Keck is seeking re-election for a second term representing the East Ward of Station 1, but is challenged by newcomer Carla Ferry.

In the West Ward, Charika Davis and Scotty Scoggins are vying for Position 2, currently held by Hawnethia Williams. Williams chose not to be re-elected after serving on the board for four terms.

The West Ward Post 3 was also running for office in that cycle, but no one was qualified to run for the seat except for incumbent Councilor Anthony Henderson, which means he’s ready to serve a second term of office on the board.

Anyone planning to attend the forum could hear each candidate’s perspective. They have all been invited to participate in the event, according to the announcement letter.

Regardless of participation plans, the Newton County Republican Party encourages everyone to submit potential questions to candidates before the event. Questions can be emailed to [email protected].
