Leader of Iron Maiden Bruce Dickinson spoke in an interview with the New Zealand TV show "The Project" and explained how he had decided to do a solo show. He said:
"The show I'm doing, basically, is a one-man show. And that turned into being initially promotional for the book. The publisher said, "We're going to rent a little theater and you're just reading," and I thought, "Well, it's really boring.
So, years ago, while I was an undergraduate student in college, my girlfriend of the time then persuaded me to go see a one-man show of a type called Quentin Crisp.
So I had to drag myself: "Oh, who is this guy?" In any case, it was absolutely great. And one of the things he did in the second half was that he took public checklists that wrote questions, and he basically came in and did almost like an improvisational thing where he answered questions.
So I thought it would be nice to do. So, I somehow built this show, and I just winged it. And it was so good, they asked me to come back to Edinburgh [International Book] Festival.
And then, after that, I ended up shooting some in Scandinavia, and now I'm doing Israel and Greece, and more concerts in Scandinavia and everything in between.. So, suddenly, I got this little extra work. "
