Twenty One Pilots turns in two opposite directions – progressive rock alt and psychedelic reggae-rap – on his two new singles, "Jumpsuit" and "Nico and the Niners". The titles appear on the group's fifth album, Trench released on October 5 via Fueled By Ramen.

The duo's "Jumpsuit" anchor with a distorted bass guitar, vivid percussion and dark synth wash, while singer Tyler Joseph goes from a near-total whisper to a piercing scream to an atmospheric falsetto. "I can not believe how much I hate / The pressures of a new place are rolling in my way," he sings. "Combination, Combination, Cover Me."

The group paired "Jumpsuit" with a strange video with Joseph in a pair of surreal scenes: singing on the hood of a car on fire and standing in a creek while looking at a hooded person – maybe death? – Who rides on a white horse.

"Nico and the Niners" takes on a lighter, more upbeat vibe, as Joseph alternates between singing and rapping on a slightly dubby groove with wavy tremolo synths, programmed rhythms and low vocals. He also seems to refer to their other new song, singing: "I am heavy; my combination is stable / I am lighter when I am lower; I am taller when I am heavy. "

Twenty One Pilots will promote Trench – which follows their 2015 Grammy-winning album, Blurryface – with a world tour leading the bill to launch October 16 in Nashville, Tennessee. The North American leg ends November 21st in Kansas City, Missouri, followed by exhibitions in Australia, Europe and the United Kingdom
