Dr. Robert "Bob" Hasty is immersed in music. Q: What was your career goal when you were growing up?
A: I was not sure. I just knew I did not want to make music. It was largely because my parents were there. I think I just wanted to be independent and follow my own path. My father is a choral musician and a professional singer. My mother has two degrees in music as a singer. My brother is also in choral music. I was the black sheep of the family. I entered instrumental music.
Q: How did you initially avoid getting into music?
A: I was really interested in mathematics and engineering. I went to USC (University of Southern California). Even though I was a major violin, I studied other subjects, ready to change major at any time.
Q: When did you start directing?
A: I realized who I admired most in music. It was teachers because they had families, lives and other interests. I think the conductor inside me said, "Go to teaching because you will be able to lead." So I turned to teaching music to become a high school band and a musician. orchestra teacher.
Q: What do you like to play with your wife?
R: It's something we can do together. It was the first time I had to play the violin and improvise.
Q: Do you have children?
A: My daughter-in-law, Emily, gave us two grandchildren, Sadie and Hugo. My wife and I have two more. My son Christopher goes to Indiana University and my daughter Sophie is a senior from Evanston Township High School.

A: We have a nice dog named Angus and we gave my daughter a cat that she named Mordechai.
Q: What is your idea of a perfect day?
A: ride a bike. I am a passionate cyclist. I just finished driving on the North Shore Century. Brewing beer. If there is a USC football game, it would be the perfect day. And of course, spend time with my family.

A: My family is the best gift. All other goods do not mean much to me.
