The author of Trainspotting Irvine Welsh, the New Zealander poet Hera Lindsay Bird and Mister Pip Author Lloyd Jones will visit Christchurch for the Word Writers Festival next month.
for the Christchurch Festival speech was launched Tuesday night and includes 120 writers and speakers across 100 events from August 29 to September 2.
The festival includes Henry Chessie's talk about his family memoirs, We Can Make a Living ] about how his father, Chris Henry, crawled through the ruins of the collapsed building of CTV after the 2011 earthquakes to rescue people trapped in the rubble and search for the dead.

Among the other writers present at the festival include the writer of American science fiction Ted Chiang, YouTube star. and poet Hollie McNish, author and academic Anne Salmond, and thriller writer AJ Finn. In 2016, one of Chiang's short stories is adapted to the science fiction film Arrival, with Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner

The author and British administrator of the eco-tourist attraction Eden Project, Jonathan Drori, will also be present at the festival. There are proposals for a New Zealand version of the Eden project on residential lands in the Red Zone east of Christchurch

Irvine Welsh will read in his new book Dead Man's Trousers will appear in a lecture on Brexit, and will share a story embarrassing in the context of the Mortification event, where writers share stories of public shame. The author enjoyed fame in the 1990s after his book Trainspotting was turned into a film defining the era starring Ewan McGregor.
