Ditko was found dead at the age of 90 in his New York home, with news of his break-up on Friday.
He and Stan Lee played a role in the creation of the hero of the canvas in the 1960s. He was working with Lee on Doctor Strange.
Holland, who plays Spider-Man in the film world of Marvel, tweeted: "We all want to leave our mark on the world – this guy has crushed it.

The Marvel Studios Twitter account posted a photo of Spider-Man with the caption: "Thank you Steve, rest in peace."
