NFL announces compensatory picks for 2021 draft

The NFL awarded draft picks for teams in the 2021 Draft.

These picks are awarded to the teams that suffered the largest free agent losses during the 2020 offseason. This year, the NFL awarded 36 comp picks. The comp selection formula awards the picks that suffered the largest net losses, so teams that have signed multiple free agents are less likely to receive picks. The Cowboys are at the top of the list (shared below) with four selections, a league top.

A change in this year’s formula has taken place, with the NFL awarding four picks to teams that have seen one of their minority members become a head coach or general manager. The 49ers, Rams, Ravens and Saints have won third round picks this year. They will receive additional third-round players in 2022. The Rams have added a third round after losing the director of college scouting. Brad holmes (GM Lions); Ravens lost quarterback coach David Culley (Texans HC); the Saints lost the assistant GM Terry fontenot (Falcons GM). By losing the VP of player staff Martin mayhew (Washington GM) and defensive coordinator Robert saleh (HC Jets), the 49ers will also have an additional third-round pick in 2023.
