DEKALB, Illinois – Nick markanich (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) has been named in the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, announced by the organization on Monday evening (September 20). The award is the second of the week for the senior forward who was also named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week.
Markanich scored four goals in two games last week, helping the Huskies to two wins against Milwaukee (September 14), in the annual Lewang Cup game, and Western Illinois (September 18). Against the Panthers, Markanich scored NIU’s second goal in a 4-0 win to retain possession of the Lewang Cup. The Bourbonnais, Ill. Native then scored a first-half hat trick in a 6-0 win over Western Illinois. Markanich’s hat trick was a Huskie’s first since Bernhard Hagevik scored three goals against Marshall on October 25, 2002.
