Inside, firefighters discovered a heavy fire on the first floor of the two-story residential building, with rear ventilation. Fire crews evacuated residents from the second floor and the fire was under control at 3:38 a.m.

The fire has been found to be suspicious and the Office of the Fire Marshal and the Suffolk Police Department are investigating. Other responding units included Engines 3 and 4, Scales 3 and 5, Medic 1, Rescue 6, EMS-1, Safety 1 and Fire Marshal 4 and 6.

The American Red Cross is helping displaced residents.
