With the original release of Tetris 99 Earlier this year, Nintendo brought an exciting appeal to the classic game with a Battle Royale mode. This not only allows you to fight 98 opponents, but your success in clearing lines and obtaining badges can speed up the defeat of your rival. 98 players are reduced to 50, then to 10, leading to the final winner.
The battle mode of the offline processor works the same way, but against computer opponents rather than live players. This will allow you to refine your skills before confronting human players. If you are good enough, Nintendo has also announced the Tetris 99 3rd Maximus Cup May 17-19 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the match.
