Hackensack Meridian Health will require all of its employees to be vaccinated against the coronavirus in the coming months, officials said.
“We are demanding vaccinations for all team members to help stop the spread of this deadly virus and keep our patients, team members and visitors safe,” NJ Advance Media told NJ on Dr Daniel Varga, Chief Medical Officer, Hackensack Meridian Health.
“Mandatory vaccinations are the best way to achieve herd immunity and protect our communities from the deadly variants that threaten to wreak havoc in the months to come. They are our best way to beat this pandemic once and for all, save lives and get back to normalcy. “
A spokeswoman for the health system, which has 17 hospitals and more than 500 health centers across Garden State, said all employees, including doctors, volunteers, salespeople and consultants, will need to be completely vaccinated by November 15.
It was not clear whether there would be penalties if employees were not vaccinated by this date.
Varga said more than 70% of Hackensack Meridian Health employees were fully vaccinated on Thursday.
Another of the state’s largest healthcare systems, RWJBarnabas Health, announced earlier this year that it would require COVID vaccinations for all of its supervisor and above-level employees.
