NMDOH Clarifies Who Is Eligible For COVID-19 Vaccination In New Mexico

The state moved from Phase 1A, which included healthcare workers and people living in assisted living, to Phase 1B. However, anyone in phase 1A can still receive a vaccine if they have not yet received one.

But not everyone is eligible for Phase 1B to receive the vaccine yet due to supply and demand.

Starting Friday, the state is prioritizing New Mexicans aged 75 and over and those with underlying health conditions aged 16 and over.

Essential frontline workers, who include teachers, are in phase 1B, but they will have to wait until more vaccines are available to make an appointment.

There is still a lot of frustration over the New Mexico Department of Health forcing school districts to cancel vaccination campaigns specifically for school staff.

However, many of these people can still get the vaccine if they fall into another eligibility category, such as being 75 or older or having an underlying health condition.
