SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – None of the three Utah Jazz all-star prospects were named a starters for the March 7 event.
The All-Star starters were announced Thursday night on TNT, and neither Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, nor Mike Conley got a starting nod as they led the Jazz to the best NBA record at the end of the vote.
In the West, guard Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks were named starters in the backcourt. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic won the starting offers in the frontcourt.
James led all the votes, receiving 5.9 million votes, and will serve as captain alongside Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant, the main Eastern voter, to select their teams from the full All roster. -Stars.
James and Durant are to complete their rosters by selecting the starters first and will finalize their rosters by choosing the other All-Star reservists who will be named on Tuesday.
Gobert and Mitchell are both big favorites to be named All-Stars in light of the success of mid-season Jazz. Both players were named to their first All-Star teams last season.
Mitchell led the jazz players to vote. He received the fourth highest number of votes among fans and media to start for the Western Conference Playoff team and finished fifth among players.
Gobert was 12th in fan vote for frontcourt players, seventh in player vote and fourth in media.
Conley faces an uphill battle to be named to his first All-Star team, a fight that has become more difficult after missing the last six games with a hamstring injury.
But while the Jazz won’t see any of their players in the match’s starting lineup, head coach Quin Snyder will be the center of the festivities. The jazz player was named the head coach of the West after leading the Jazz to a best NBA 24-5 record to open the season.
Eastern Conference starters will be Washington Wizards goalie Bradley Beal, Nets goaltender Kyrie Irving, Durant, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid.
Jazz hasn’t had an All-Star starter for over two decades. Karl Malone made his last start in the game in 1998, coincidentally last season the Jazz made the NBA Finals.
