Nominations for seats on the new South Maui and Paia-Haiku advisory committees, now comprising two alternates for each body, are now being accepted until September 30.
Maui County Council Member Mike Molina, chairman of the government relations, ethics and transparency committee, said “The new advisory committees will play a critical role in guiding the Maui Planning Commission on land use issues in the South Maui and Paia-Haiku Community Plan Areas. “
“It is important that we establish well balanced and diverse committees, so I encourage all qualified residents to apply,” Molina added.
Molina said her committee would meet next month to review candidates for the five board-appointed seats and up to two alternates for each advisory committee. Mayor Michael Victorino will select the other two members of each advisory committee.
Information on responsibilities and membership criteria can be found in Order 5241, which is available online at tinyurl.com/zh2m8jn4.
Each advisory committee should have at least one member with demonstrated expertise in traditional and customary practices of indigenous Hawaiians and another with training in conservation, natural resources or climate change, Molina said.
