Here are the headlines across the North Fork for Monday, August 23:
The North Fork was spared the worst Sunday like Tropical Storm Henri moved east of Long Island, resulting in heavy rains and high winds, but not the destruction that had been predicted.
A constant stream of spectators headed to the beaches and docks to see if any flooding occurred at high tide on Sunday afternoon, but the effects of the storm were minimal.
It was only on Fishers Island, a part of Southold Town closer to Connecticut that found itself in the direct path of the storm, but even there authorities reported downed trees but less damage than expected.
Back on the mainland, there were very few reports of trees being felled, and although there were puddles on some local roads designed for difficult driving conditions, most of the roads in the area remained passable. .
As for Monday, well we’re not quite done with the effects of the storm.
Flood monitoring remains in effect today as more rain is likely for the region, according to the National Meteorological Service. Today’s high temperature will be around 82 degrees with a low tonight of around 71.
