Residents of northeastern New Jersey claim to be on alert because of a severe measles outbreak in Rockland County, New York, on the border with New Jersey.
Rockland County officials said the state of emergency after reporting at least 153 cases of measles.
"It's a big problem. Anyway, measles or anything is contagious, "says Terrence Scott, a resident of Bergen County.
Health officials in New York now say that all unvaccinated children will be banned from public places until the epidemic calms down.
Now, the North West Regional Health Commission of Bergen – which contracts public health services in cities such as Emerson, Hillsdale, Mahwah and Midland Park – is monitoring the situation at the border.

A spokesman said, "The local health department is working with the New Jersey Department of Health to identify, warn and monitor people when an exposure occurs. There are currently no homes or cases in Bergen County. "
The statement continues: "We continue to work with the NJDOH to inform the public of the need to be vaccinated and to keep abreast of its immunization status … The most important message is to ensure that they are vaccinated. should avoid going to a community where there is an active epidemic ".
New York officials say the outbreak in Rockland County has been largely concentrated in ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities, many of which have close ties to areas of Brooklyn where there have also been infections.
There have been at least eight cases of measles in New Jersey this year.
More than 30 people were infected with a measles outbreak that occurred in Lakewood in late 2018. The epidemic was also linked to the Orthodox Jewish community, according to officials, who reportedly said they had started with an infected person who had returned to New Jersey after a trip to Israel.
