BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Northern Light Health officials say a health system worker has died from COVID-19.

They did not provide any details about the individual for confidentiality reasons.

They confirmed that the person contracted the virus from community exposure, not from work.

Dr James Jarvis expressed his sympathy for the individual’s family, colleagues and community during a virtual press conference.

“We are saddened by this loss and our sympathies go out to the family and community as well as to this person’s colleagues. It’s a sad situation for us here at the medical center and it affects us. It tells us it’s real. It tells us that we need to continue to be diligent and that we all need to take care of each other and that we need to take care of our communities. Now is not the time to say it’s all about me because it isn’t. This is all of us and everyone you come in contact with is just another person you could infect if you don’t take the right precautions and then you could suffer a loss in your family, in your community. , at your workplace. And we don’t want this to happen unnecessarily. We want people to stay safe. We want them to be healthy and we don’t want any other business, industry, community or family going through what our family is going through right now.

Maine CDC director Dr Nirav Shah says he cannot yet confirm whether this is the first healthcare worker in Maine to die with COVID-19.

But they are investigating.

He also shared his sympathy for the loss during the CDC briefing on Wednesday.
