The MIFF advertising campaign is exclusive and undemocratic and does not contribute to a good inclusive debate.
On the Saturday edition By Bergens Tidende (and 6 other newspapers), MIFF (With Israel For Peace) has published an advertising page that encourages the boycott of the commitment of young Norwegians for a more just world, through Dagsverk Operations.
In addition to the fact that advertising is characterized by false information and crude accusations without rooting in reality, MIFF has chosen to place the debate in an undemocratic forum where economic factors determine who can participate. Operation Dagsverk (NPD) works for the rights of young people around the world and uses our means to this end, not to deliver health-promoting advertising with meaningful content that turns the work of others into a more just world.
We consider that this hold is highly exclusive and undemocratic and does not contribute to a good inclusive debate.
Operation Day Works is Norway's largest solidarity campaign for, with and for young people. This year, the thousands of Norwegian schoolchildren working in November will go to support projects for Palestinian youth.
Trauma treatment, gender equality projects and rights work will provide young people with the tools they need to create a better and peaceful future. It is this work that MIFF wants to put in the wheels. Saturday's advertisement on BT is part of a swearing campaign that has lasted for more than six months. Since an overwhelming majority of Norwegian schoolchildren at Elevtinget in March have selected this year's project, MIFF has mobilized to delegate the OD and this year's partner, KFUK-KFUM Global, while trying to make it difficult for schoolchildren to participate in the campaign.
As a result, many young union representatives have faced accusations of terrorist support and hatred of Jews for their involvement.
This year's project It's not an unusual project. For more than fifty years, the NDP has been working for youth rights and against racism, discrimination and human rights violations. This year is no exception. At the same time, we find that the emotions associated with the theme are strong and that some opponents are trying to derail the debate on Palestinian youth at any price.
MIFF's accusations against Operations Dagsverk and the year project are very real and it is absolutely absurd to think that the OD is suddenly seeking to be stigmatized or demonized by a popular group. Supporting Palestinian youth does not mean fighting against the existence of Israel. We have no hidden agenda or antisemitic attitudes.
Both the NDP and our partner recognize that Israel is a legitimate state. For us, it's about all those who deserve an equal chance in life, no matter where you are born, what God is asking you, what color you have or what language you speak. It is about respecting human rights and it should be totally controversial.
We criticized human rights violations in more than fifty countries, for over fifty years, and announcements with false accusations will not make us stop that. A little we despise more than the thought of a society where young people are afraid of the silence of their good adult adversaries. Youth involvement in a more just world should be proven and not crushed by false accusations and distorted facts. Because all young people (even Palestinians) deserve the freedom to live!
