The incident occurred Sunday night in the city of Bamenda, located in the northwestern part of the English language Cameroon. 79 students aged 11 to 17 were abducted by armed separatists, as well as the principal, a teacher and a driver.
A video showing apparently kidnapped children is published by men named Amba Boy, a reference to armed separatists from the state of Ambazonia who are trying to establish southwestern and northwestern Cameroon .
In the video, the kidnappers are forcing more and more young boys to enter their names and those of their parents. They say that they do not know where they are.
Men who identify as kidnappers say that they will only release children when they reach their goals. Separatists believe that the anglophone minority in the northwest and southwest is marginalized by the francophone government.
"We will not let you go until after the game, you go to school here now," the kidnappers say in the video.

Most of Cameroon, former French colony, is French-speaking. The two English-speaking regions of the country are the scene of a formidable armed insurrection. Last year, hundreds of civilians and more than 175 security force members were killed.
