Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem writes in an email Saturday that there is an agreement on a ceasefire. Israel has not yet confirmed this.
Local media quoted sources in Hamas as saying that the Egyptian intelligence service and UN special envoy Nicolai Mladinov negotiated the ceasefire.
The ceasefire alert comes after Israel has conducted the most thorough air strikes on the Gaza Strip since the war of 2014. Last night, at least 90 grenades and rockets were fired at Gaza from Israel. Two Palestinians were killed and 25 wounded in Saturday's air strike against the Gaza Strip, while three Israelis were injured when a rocket struck a house in the Israeli town of Sderot.
An Israeli military spokesman would not comment on a ceasefire. He just wanted to say that what Israel does depends on what's happening on the ground.
