A persistent hot wave has gripped Japan's grip since last week. It is only Wednesday that eight people lost their lives.
One of the authors was a six year old boy who collapsed during a school trip. The others are mainly people between 70 and 90 years old.
Together, at least 14 people died during the weekend and the beginning of the week, according to The Independent.
About 2000 were treated for heat stroke.
The Japan Meteorological Institute reported that temperatures have dropped more than 40 in cities like Tajimi and Mino in central Japan. It has not happened in five years. In the city of Toyota, it was 39.7 degrees, while in Kyoto it was 39.1 degrees.
In the capital itself, the temperature is about 35 degrees.
According to meteorologists, the heat wave in Japan will continue throughout the month. Last week, twelve people died of heat, while nearly 10,000 people were treated at the hospital.
Several hundred deaths in flood
The heat hit the same regions as last week.
More than two hundred people died and several million were evacuated in the extreme weather that hit the city of Hiroshima, among other things.
