Israel faces charges against Iranian-Norwegians

Iran's intelligence minister, Mahmoud Alavi, said on Monday that the plot was aimed at damaging relations between Iran and the EU.

The "Zionist regime" is behind the plan, Alavi said on Iranian television. The Iranian authorities often use the term "Zionist regime" to refer to Israel.

Norwegian 39-year-old Iranians were arrested in Sweden in October after Denmark's post-police assistance service (PET) attempted to take him for several weeks.

He is accused of planning an assault against three members of the ASMLA, an Iranian insurgent resident in Denmark. In addition, he is suspected of having links with the Iranian intelligence services.

According to PET, the man refuses to pay a penalty. The Iranian authorities also denied any involvement in the case and accused PET of spreading misinformation.

PET has received advice from Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, about this man, according to Israeli radio station KAN Bet. The source of this claim is not known, but it was presented by the Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post last week.

Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi commented on the day when US sanctions against the Iranian oil industry were reintroduced. The EU is extremely critical of sanctions and is trying to help European companies get around them.
