So where are we going to travel in 2019 and why?

Matt Phillips, editor-in-chief of the Lonely Plan plan for Destination in Africa, explains:

– Sri Lanka has been renamed in recent years. After the civil war, trains, roads and new air routes to the interior of the country developed strongly. The country is much more open to tourism. Tourism products are better whether you're a family traveling, an adrenaline jockey or something in between. You can take cooking classes, live in villages with families, take yoga classes or practice extreme sports, "said Matt Phillips on the London phone.

In Germany, the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, a school of design and architecture founded by Walter Gropius, is celebrated next year. This is why three museums are open in different parts of the country. In addition, 30 years have passed since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

– It's a charming country in which to travel – good wine and beer, mountain landscapes and amazing cities. But the main reason Germany is at this time is Bauhaus, he says.

Phillips is based in Africa and has lived and traveled in different countries over the years. He is pleased that Zimbabwe is among the top three.

"After the fall of Mugabe, there is really new optimism in the country and this is noticeable: on a par with Sri Lanka, the country's infrastructure has been repaired and it is easier to move. , it's about incredible wildlife, canoeing or rafting on the Zambezi River, as well as the generally warm population that welcomes tourists.

Helge Baardseth, Travel Editor at Vagabond, is not so excited about Lonely Planet's new travel listings.

"Most of the time, I think Lonely Planet believes that it's appropriate to publish books and nothing more," Baardseth said.

He points out that all the countries and cities mentioned are interesting, but that seems arbitrary.

"And I think it's very strange not to talk about Plovdiv in Bulgaria. This city is the capital of the EU in 2019," he added.

Furthermore:

"It has been a long time since Sri Lanka has not become the best destination," he said.

– Sri Lanka increases from Norway

Although Sri Lanka is not a major destination compared to Thailand and the Canary Islands, Norwegians have more and more eye for the country and the number of bookings is increasing steadily, according to the Travel Agency Ticket.

"The country has climbed on the travel lists, going from 45th place in 2017 to 37th in 2018, an increase of 44%, based on actual orders," said Ellen Wolff Andersen, head of the country's travel agency. Ticket administration.

Germany is still in the top ten lists, but returns from last year. But Copenhagen is a destination of choice for Norwegians.

"The city is fourth in 2017 and 2018, with a drop of about 30% this year compared to last year," she said.

More good surprises

Among all the countries and cities on the list, the publisher of Lonely Planet is pleased that one of his favorite places, São Tomé and Príncipe, is included. He believes that the island of the West African coast will not disappoint anyone.

– With its incredible landscapes and landscapes, beaches, coffee and chocolate production, it is a wonderful country to visit. Most people do not know where he is or may have never heard of it once. But it's really rewarding that this is one of the destinations on the list for 2019, says Phillips.

Kyrgyzstan and Kathmandu Nepal are also places where he is very happy to be accompanied.

"Kyrgyzstan is another country that thinks it can travel and is a surprising country on the list, but here they come to open 250 miles with new and improved hiking trails and the country also has incredible nature, so it has extreme potential, Kathmandu sees an upsurge after the violent 2015 earthquake, and fortunately tourists are coming back, he said.
