The Swedish Medicines Agency is bringing to the market a lot of contaminated drugs containing the active ingredient Valsartan. The reason is that drugs can be carcinogenic.
TV 2 writes that the current drugs are manufactured by the Chinese Zhejiang Huahei Pharmaceuticals factory. Pharmacies across Europe remove these products from the market due to pollution.
According to the Norwegian Medicines Agency, about 70,000 Norwegians use drugs containing valsartan, a substance included in the treatment of heart failure.
Medical Director Steinar Madsen of the Norwegian Medicines Agency says that contaminated drugs do not have short-term effects.
– But in the long run, he may be slightly carcinogenic, he says.
