Millions of Americans are prevented from voting

Political commentators stress that it is above all the Democrats who lose voters because of strict rules and that the restrictions will determine after all the result of the elections.

The United States has a population of nearly 328 million. Nearly six million of them are stranded because they are in jail, out of court or waiting for their trial.

African Americans are overrepresented in the US penal system. According to the organization The Sentencing Project, it is four times more likely that African Americans are excluded from the election compared to members of other communities.

Failure to vote

The rules applicable to sentenced persons vary from state to state. In Maine and New Hampshire, inmates are allowed to vote. But in Kentucky, Iowa, Virginia and Florida, any judgment, even for less serious conditions, such as possession of cannabis, is sufficient to be deprived of the right to vote for life.

In Florida, a state like Donald Trump got 112,000 votes in 2016, 1.5 million people are disenfranchised because of their parchment. A referendum on the modification of certain parts of this program takes place at the same time as Tuesday afternoon.

Requires a street address

The United States has no arrangement with national identity cards. Each state itself creates the rules regarding valid identification information at polling stations.

According to the Civil Rights Union (ACLU), several states have put in place restrictive rules since 2010.

North Dakota has asked citizens to provide a mailing address. Many thousands of the Aboriginal population live in this state and many of them live on reserves with only one mailbox address. They may therefore be rejected when they try to vote.

Democrat Heidi Heitkamp, ​​who won his Senate seat with only 3,000 overweight votes, is fighting for re-election in North Dakota.

Supporters of the rule believe that it prevents the electorate, since the state does not pre-register an obligation to vote.

Arrested 53,000 registrations

In Georgia, a system has been introduced in which the information provided by voters when they register is compared to that specified in driver's license or social security applications.

If something fails, the authorities may refuse registration.

Approximately 53,000 registrations have ceased in this state. 70% of them belong to African-Americans, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Republican Gov. candidate Brian Kemp heads the office for voter registration.

His opponent is Democrat Stacey Abrams, who hopes to be the first black woman to be elected governor in the United States. Abrams accuses Kemp of abusing his power to influence elections in his favor.

Kemp says, on the other hand, voters can vote if they bring additional information, accusing Abrams of letting illegal immigrants participate in elections.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the state to immediately change the proceedings.
