More than 10,000 automated accounts, created to influence Tuesday's US election, have been removed from Twitter, according to Reuters.
The accounts stood out for belonging to the Democratic Party. It is the party itself that contacted the company and pointed out that the messages did not come from them.
– We took action against the accounts and activities concerned on Twitter, says a spokesman for the company in an email to the news agency.
According to Twitter, the accounts were set to dissuade US voters from voting in elections next week.
The phenomenon is not new. In the context of the 2016 presidential election, Twitter has removed several million accounts used to spread misinformation.
