Today, about 90,000 Norwegian households report owning a home abroad, according to Prognosesenteret, a company specializing in the analysis of European real estate markets.

Partner Bjørn-Erik Øye in the forecasting center tells Finansavisen that for the first time, it's a situation where the interest in buying housing abroad exceeded the demand in Norway. The increase in demand began in the spring of 2016, according to Øye.

– At that time, 0.9% said that they had thought to buy something abroad for three years. Now, in the spring of 2018, it's 3.4%. It's about the same as 80,000 households. It costs three times more to buy a holiday home abroad than two years ago, he told the newspaper.

He is backed by the CEO of Agnar D. Carlsen of Norsk Megling International, who says that the difference from last year is excellent. Among Carlsen's customers, approximately 60% of the property is purchased in Spain.

He believes that the real estate market in southern Europe has generally risen again.

– Prices are rising after the financial crisis. Especially in Spain, but also in France and Italy, he says. (AFP)
