Norway is the country of the Nordic region that discriminates at least atheists, humanists and non-religious. At the global level, Norway ranks 8th, alongside the United States.

The survey was conducted by the International Humanitarian Union, IHEU, and includes 196 countries. Organizations provide an annual status report to the UN, but this is the first time that they publish a ranking they write on their websites.

Belgium, the Netherlands and Taiwan share the first place of the best atheism. At the bottom of the list you will find Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The reason why the three countries are on the ground is that they essentially build the country's laws on religion and any criticism or denial of religion is prohibited and may result in the death penalty.

Among the Nordic countries, Norway is at the top with 8th place and Sweden 11th. Iceland is at number 60, while Denmark and Finland are lower.

The reason why our neighbors to the East and South are far off the list is partly due to the privileges of the Danish State Church and the Finnish coat of arms law. They are respectively 119th and 128th.

The ranking is based on the country's constitution and government, education and the rights of the child, society and religious courts and freedom of religion.
