Six Turkish journalists sentenced to long prison terms

Six reporters from the now-defunct Zaman newspaper are sentenced to long prison terms, for example for belonging to a terrorist organization.

The Zaman newspaper is closely related to the Muslim predecessor Fethullah Gülen.

Journalists were arrested shortly after the coup and accused of belonging to a terrorist organization, violation of the Turkish Constitution and several other crimes.

Two journalists were sentenced to more than ten years in prison. nine years of imprisonment and three others were granted for eight years each.

Five journalists of the newspaper, also accused, were acquitted.
