The head of the EU border control agency, Frontex, says that Morocco's route to Spain could be the main route for migrants trying to get to Europe

– If you ask me what is my biggest concern Spain, said the director of Frontex, Fabrice Leggeri, to the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag

According to figures from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 6,513 migrants and refugees arrived in Spain in the first six months of 2017.

In contrast, 6,000 came to Spain in June of this year.

– If the numbers continue to increase as now, this road will be the most important now, says Leggeri.

Up to now, Greece and Italy has recorded the highest number of arrivals of migrants and refugees who crossed the Mediterranean to reach the EU countries. As the road gradually closed after the Libyan coastguards increased their patrols beyond the shores of Libya, the traffickers moved west to Morocco, writes the news agency. ; AFP.
