The Michigan basketball team found themselves struggling at a few different places on Sunday in Wisconsin and around the middle of the second half the Wolverines were down double digits.
But Michigan basketball, which is playing for the first time in more than three weeks, rallied, thanks to an exceptional defensive effort, great coaching effort, and a stamina that championship teams always seem to have.
It was definitely the kind of game you needed to win to win a conference championship and Michigan basketball took a big step towards the Big Ten title on Sunday and here are the notes:
Great
Hunter Dickinson: A-
Although Dickinson didn’t play very well offensively, he was very efficient and delivered my prediction that he would go back to double digits in the score. He finished with 11 points, knocked down 15 rebounds and blocked five shots. He was 5-for-6 from the free throw line and his defense in the pick-and-roll game was really good. For some reason he came back to earth scoring the ball indoors, but his impact was still felt on both ends of the floor on Sunday.
Austin Davis: B +
Like Dickinson, Davis was not perfect and was a bit of a handicap in defense, but he also had some good times at post during his 13 minutes of action. The senior scored two huge buckets in the second half with Michigan trailing and while he probably doesn’t need to play more than 10 minutes a night, he’s still a reliable offensive option on the inside.
Brandon Johns: I
Johns only played four minutes on Sunday, so it’s hard to give a rating anyway. But his game has been better over the season. He returned the ball once and didn’t have much of an impact, but he will have his moments later.
