After weeks of hype, Carl Pei’s Nothing has finally unveiled its first product – the Nothing Ear 1 – today. As seen in the previous teasers, the TWS headphones feature a transparent design and offer premium features such as active noise cancellation. Read on to learn more about the all new TWS headphones.
The Nothing Ear 1 features a unique design unlike any other TWS earphone available on the market today. It comes in a clear square carrying case with a golf ball-like dimpled finish inside. The headphones themselves look a bit like the Apple AirPods Pro, but the flat shaft and two-tone color scheme sets them apart.
Nothing claims that every element of the Ear 1’s design is goal-oriented, from the red and white dots on the headphones (which indicate right and left) to the fisheye in the housing that keeps the headphones in. security. Each earbud weighs 4.7 grams and comes with three customizable liquid silicone tips to ensure an ergonomic fit and a comfortable listening experience. The rod design is also very functional, providing users with a flat surface for touch controls.
The Nothing Ear 1 contains an 11.6mm driver in each ear cup, paired with three high-definition mics for active noise cancellation and noise cancellation during calls. Nothing has teamed up with the folks at Teenage Engineering to adjust the sound and provides four preset options in the companion app (available on iOS and Android) to help you customize the sound to your preferences. The active noise cancellation feature on the earbuds has three modes: on, off and transparent. In addition, the companion app includes additional options to change the ANC level.
As mentioned before, the Nothing Ear 1 has touch controls. You can double tap the flat rod to play / pause, triple tap to change tracks, press and hold to switch between ANC modes, and swipe up / down to control the volume. When it comes to battery life, there is no claim that the Ear 1 can last up to 4 hours on a single charge with ANC on and up to 6 hours without ANC. The case offers an additional 24 hours of autonomy (34 hours without ANC). The case also offers wireless charging and fast charging support, providing 8 hours of playtime with a 10-minute charge. There is also no claim that you can wirelessly charge the 570mAh battery in the case in 2.5 hours, while wired charging only takes 52 minutes.
Additional features include an IPX4 rating for sweat and splash resistance, Google Fast Pair support, in-ear detection, and a Find My Earbuds feature in the companion app. Unfortunately, the Nothing Ear 1 does not offer multipoint connection support or voice assistant integration. The headphones feature Bluetooth 5.2 for connectivity and support AAC and SBC codecs.
Pricing and availability
The Nothing Ear 1 is priced at $ 99, € 99 and £ 99 in the US, Europe and UK, respectively. It will initially be available for purchase via limited drop on July 31 at 2:00 p.m. BST on the Nothing website. The open sale will begin August 17, and the headphones will be available for purchase in 45 countries through Nothing’s website and select retailers. In India, the headphones will be available for 5,999,999 on Flipkart starting August 17.
