Victorian-era Prime Minister Daniel Andrews announced a number of grants for community pharmacies and general practitioners’ offices to help roll out COVID-19 vaccination.

Speaking at Monday’s press conference, he said grants of $ 4,000 and $ 10,000 would be available for pharmacies and general practitioners in 11 local government areas. There would be an expression of interest process over the next week.

The local government areas included were Moreland, Brimbank, Cardinia, Casey, Darebin, Greater Dandenong, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Melton, Whittlesea and Wyndham.

“So what [the grants] means, for example, that a GP’s office can operate overtime because it can employ additional staff, ”the Prime Minister said.

“Some pharmacists told me, ‘I don’t have enough space in the store.’

“But if [they] had a little help so they could rent a space next door … [or] just down the road, and they could make it work … like theirs [vaccination hub]in this space.

“So it’s about extra staff, extra salaries, extra space – just common sense.”
