NUECES COUNTY, Texas – Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales released a statement after local health officials announced more than four hundred new cases of COVID-19.

On Thursday evening, the Nueces County Public Health District reported 438 new cases of COVID-19. Judge Canales said the number of new cases was disturbing news.

“We are analyzing the data to see if we need to take action to contain local outbreaks and to see if any reporting anomalies have contributed to this sharp increase in one-day cases. We cannot see this as an anomaly – we have to take this as an urgent warning, especially given the holiday gatherings that are taking place now, ”Canales said.

She added that local doctors were evaluating their ability to respond to a sustained increase in the number of positive cases. The Nueces County judge said she would be proactive in seeking help from the Texas Emergency Management Division (TDEM) if officials predict an increase in hospitalizations due to the surge in positive cases.

Canales said, “I urge all residents of Nueces County to take all necessary precautions to reduce the risk of exposure to the coronavirus. And while we talk about practicing the 3Ws – wearing a mask, washing your hands, looking at a distance – it’s important to follow all of the precautions advised by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. United States. “
