Nurse put on administrative leave after her TikTok brags about breaking Covid-19 rules goes viral

While many healthcare workers have used social media to show Americans the damaging effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, an Oregon nurse is struggling to do the opposite.

An oncology nurse from Salem Health, Oregon, was put on administrative leave on Saturday after posting a TikTok video in which she bragged about flouting her state’s pandemic restrictions, the hospital said at CNN.

The video, which has since been withdrawn, showed the nurse, wearing scrubs and a stethoscope around her neck, pretending to shout with a caption that read: “When my coworkers hear that I am still traveling, don’t wear a mask. am away and my children have play dates.

The video, posted Friday, went viral, and at least one other TikTok user posted a version of it to their account – which received hundreds of thousands of views.

The video “showed a cavalier disregard for the gravity of this pandemic and its indifference to physical distancing and masking outside of work,” the hospital said in a statement on Facebook on Saturday.

The hospital continued to distance itself from the nurse’s comments, saying, “We also want to assure you that this reckless statement does not reflect the position of Salem Health or the hardworking and dedicated caregivers who work here.

The hospital said the nurse would be on administrative leave until an investigation that “fully and accurately establishes the facts in this matter” is completed.

CNN affiliate KPTV said it sent a crew to the nurse’s home for comment, but declined.

CNN was unable to reach her for comment.

The video comes as Oregon has seen an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in recent weeks, setting records for the number of new cases of the disease. just last weekend.
