CAMBRIDGE – Saturday’s OVAC Cal Pokas Cross Country Championship individual race was rather disappointing thanks to the presence of Larry Josh Edwards of University High.
Team races, however, were more contested at Cambridge High School.
Edwards’ overall victory in a record time of 15:22 propelled the Hawks to the 5A title with 27 points.
Oak Glen was impressive winning the 4A title with 210 points. Barnesville finished atop the 3A ranks with 275 points and Caldwell was the top 1A / 2A finisher with 471 points.

While Edwards’ tour around the Cambridge facility was brisk, he was pushed by his teammate and runner-up Rocco Devincent, who posted an impressive 3:40 pm.
All in all, the Hawks saw their seven runners win All-OVAC.
Wheeling Park, which saw its first runner – Brady Miller – place 11th overall, placed seven runners on the All-OVAC team.
Behind Miller was senior Mac Morgan, 12th overall. Other Patriots to win the All-OVAC include: Jonah Nizami (15th), junior Ben Ashmore (20th), junior Eli Miller (24th), junior Trent Thomas (25th) and Redick Moore (27th).
The top local finalist was John Marshall Sr. Mack Allen, who finished fifth in 16:12.
4A
The Oak Glen Golden Bears bagged their first OVAC title since 1987 when they beat the host Bobcats by 79 points.
Oak Glen’s offense was fueled by senior Konnor Allison, who placed eighth overall and won the 4A individual title in the process with a time of 16:26.
Senior Mason Konchar finished 18th in 16:51 and his classmate Nick Gallo finished 22nd in 17:08.
The only other 4A rider to win All-OVAC was Indian Creek senior Robert McDonald, who finished 30th.
3A
Barnesville entered the competition believing Martins Ferry to be his best competition. The Shamrocks actually got everything they wanted from Linsly, who placed second in the class.
The title for the Shamrocks was their third overall and the first since 2010.
“We were watching Martins Ferry because they beat us at the (Belmont) County meet, but Linsly had runners that we had never seen before, but we ran really well,” said the coach- Chief Mark Brown. “We have four freshmen in our top eight so we’re very happy. “
The Shamrocks can feature a heavy freshman roster, but their clear leader is senior Tyler Jenkins, who finished 10th overall in 16:29.
Other Shamrocks scorers were Braedon Willis, Conner Starr, Logan Dodd and Jonathan Carpenter.
Martins Ferry senior Francis Toohey placed 21st overall to win the All-OVAC.
1A / 2A
The Caldwell Redskins trivialized the OVAC cross-country titles. They recorded their 10th in a row and 16th overall this time around.
Southern Local was second.
The only small school runner to win All-OVAC and therefore the class winner was Wheeling Central second student Aidan Scott. He broke the tape in 16:20 to finish seventh overall.
