The kid from his hometown was a fan of his hometown and now his current squad is growing.

Obi Toppin let out tears of joy after the Knicks selected the No.8 Brooklyn native in the overall standings in the 2020 NBA Draft on Wednesday. On Thursday, his mother, Roni, shared a photo on twitter it may have provided just a touch of foreshadowing what was to come for his son and proved his Knicks fandom.

The photo showed a young Obi Toppin smiling as a child, dressed in a No.8 Knicks jersey – likely Latrell Sprewell from the late 1990s and early 2000s – over what looks like blue pajamas. Roni captioned it, writing: “Been Knicks fans NY”.

Knicks fans are hoping the 22-year-old forward, who grew up in Ossining, can build his superb Dayton career and keep them smiling for years to come.
