Obituary: Daniel Charles “Danny” Dundas

Daniel Charles “Danny” Dundas: 1985 – 2021

Our family and the entire community suffered great loss on September 27, 2021. Daniel Charles Dundas – Danny to all who knew him – passed away suddenly in Casper. He was born on September 19, 1985 to a Casper family, son of David and Karla (Wales) Dundas. He had two sisters Heather and Jennifer and later his “brother” Jesse joined the family.

During his early years, Danny was full of energy and possessed an incredibly fun personality. He attended Park Elementary School, Dean Morgan Middle School, and graduated from Natrona County High School. He continued his studies at the University of Wyoming. From an early age his family and friends knew that Danny had a brilliant mind and was able to combine his intelligence with a very competitive and athletic lifestyle. He played many sports throughout his life including wrestling, soccer and soccer, in which he excelled.

Danny has had compassion for all people his whole life. Regardless of a person’s background or situation, he was able to attract them to him and to his group. People were drawn to his keen sense of humor and his genuine kindness to everyone he met. Her goal was to always be active and have fun.

After graduating from the University of Wyoming, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology, he joined the Casper Police Department. His boss at the time mentioned that Danny was special and could go a long way in the force. The chef even mentioned that he wouldn’t be surprised if Danny ever became a chef.

He was a lieutenant at the time of his death and was the youngest to reach that rank in the Casper Police Department. Danny was a highly decorated policeman. He has received seven Commendation Certificates, a Letter of Merit, the Lifesaving Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Police Service Cross with Combat Distinction and two Unity Commendation Awards.

He was also Officer of the Year in 2011 and Sergeant of the Year in 2015. Danny never saw his job as mere law enforcement, but more of community service. In 2011, Danny and firefighter Craig Kidder saved a 14-year-old girl from the North Platte River, saving the girl’s life. In many ways, he was the face of Casper’s police department appearing in numerous videos produced by the department in both serious and humorous veins, many of which were posted on the department’s social media pages.

Throughout his career, Danny has touched many people in and out of the force. In his work he has met all kinds of people in countless places in their lives. He called them his “clients” because he sincerely believed he could help them get back on the right path in life. His success in this regard can certainly be seen through the incredible outpouring of support and comments he has received over the years.

Danny continued to make a difference in the community by helping several groups and participating in a number of organizations across the city. As a young man and, later in his career, Danny was determined to make Casper a better place.

Danny has a son, Maddux, and has instilled the same passions and values ​​he holds dear into his son’s life. Maddux was her top priority and loved her beyond description. He always encouraged his son not only to live but to excel in life!

Last summer, Danny married his best friend Annie, and along with Maddux and Annie’s children, Brielle and Jonah, and their three wild dogs, they made a family home in Casper. Police work can be very taxing and can hurt a person a lot, but Danny always brought home laughter, peace, security, rest and joy every day. Things could get crazy sometimes with two college kids and a young girl adoring him no matter what crazy things Danny said or did. He liked nothing more than having the five family members sit down for dinner together, several times he had braced himself on his smoker. He loved his home and his family more than can be described and he was so proud of the life he and Annie had built together.

Although Danny left this world far too soon, he provided years of love and laughter that are forever etched in the souls of Annie and their children.

In addition to his wife Annie, his son Maddux and his stepchildren Brielle and Jonah, Danny is survived by his mother and father David and Karla Dundas; Her sister Heather Butler and her husband Dude and their children Mariah, Jace, Collin and Charley; her sister Jennifer and her husband Jeremiah Benardis and their new daughter Jada; his brother Jesse Morgan and his wife Brittney and their son Elijah. Danny is also survived by a very large extended family made up of many aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Danny has touched many members of the Casper community and many are saddened and struggling with the loss of a great man. Thank you, Casper, for sharing the life of a true hero!

Our fun loving son, brother, friend and compassionate person will be missed, and Casper is a better place because of him.

At the request of the Dundas family, a public memorial service is scheduled and anyone wishing to pay tribute to Danny is welcome to attend. The service will take place on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the Ford Wyoming Center, starting at 4:00 p.m.

The Dundas family ask participants to wear blue, black or patriotic clothing in honor of Danny. In lieu of flowers, the Casper Police Department accepts memorials in recognition of Lt. Daniel Dundas.
