Nashville-based casual dining chain O’Charley’s is launching a limited-time, non-profit virtual restaurant this fall, the chain of more than 175 units announced this week. Songwriter’s Café was launched on October 4 and will run until November 21, with all sales of its burgers, chicken fillets and catfish going to the Folded Flag Foundation, which provides scholarships and grants to members. families of fallen soldiers.
While ghost kitchens have exploded in popularity over the past two years, few have ventured into nonprofit territory. This charity ghost cooking venture will be funded in conjunction with country music artists like Lee Brice, Tenille Arts, Thompson Square and Liz Rose. Takeout and deliveries will be available through DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Postmates, with entrees ranging from $ 8.99 to $ 14.99.
“Since March 2020, we have launched three virtual restaurant brands and are happy with their performance,” said CEO Craig Barber. “As we moved forward into 2021, we started to even rethink our idea of what a virtual restaurant could be. By ordering at the Songwriters Café, our guests can make a direct contribution and positively impact these deserving families.
The Songwriter’s Café began as a virtual benefit concert series that raised $ 575,000 for the families of deceased veterans in 2020, and is part of the O’Charley’s Hometown Heroes initiative, which benefits military, veterans, gold star families, healthcare workers and first responders and has raised $ 1.6 million since 2016.
Since last year, O’Charley’s launched three virtual brands, as many companies did during the pandemic. Coop & Run and Dockside Charlie’s were ghost kitchens that focused on chicken and seafood respectively, while Songwriter’s Café was the first virtual nonprofit they tackled.
Right now, Songwriter’s Café is available for delivery across O’Charley’s portfolio at 151 restaurants in 17 states.
“We are always looking for new ways to create more support for Folded Flag. The Songwriters Café is a great avenue to do this, ”said Barber. “Whether it’s virtual concepts, in-store fundraisers or other initiatives, O’Charley’s is committed to supporting Folded Flag.
