OG&E prepares its clients for potential deployment failures

As cold weather strikes all states, energy companies are struggling to meet demand for natural gas.

OG&E always asks its customers to save energy to avoid blackouts.

“What drives this is the unprecedented winter weather plaguing the country,” said David Kimmel of OG&E.

If the system overloads again, residents can expect scheduled power outages every 24 hours. Each failure lasts no more than an hour.

“As we move forward with these planned outages we will try to let customers know as best we can that something is going to happen, although we are not sure we can tell them exactly when and what time. they can arise, ”Kimmel said.

If that happens, it will be difficult to predict which parts of Oklahoma will be affected and when.

“Our capacity is around 6,000 megawatts and we need to phase out around 75 megawatts, or about 1% of our load,” Kimmel said. “This will amount to a different set of households depending on where it is in our service territory and it also depends on whether they are businesses or residences, it will not necessarily be entirely residential.”

OG&E is hoping that by Wednesday the threat of blackouts is over, meanwhile residents should prepare.

“Don’t turn on appliances unless you have to. All of this will make a huge difference. The more we can save and the more we can get a part of this generation back online, the faster it will pass, and we can get back to normal, ”Kimmel said.

OG&E has identified companies that use more energy than your usual household and are working with them to reduce their use.
