COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported that the state had 17,065 new cases of the combined coronavirus on Thursday and Friday.
This brings the total number of cases to 399,808, which includes confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19.
The health department did not release figures Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
A total of 6,346 people have died from coronavirus, up 72 from the figure released on Wednesday.
Ohio broke an all-time high of 156 dead on Wednesday.
Ohio’s one-day record was 11,885 new cases on Monday, but that number is due to a series of lab tests, Gov. Mike DeWine said.
Confirmed cases are defined by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as people who have tested positive. Probable cases are diagnosed by a doctor when a person has been in close contact with an infected person, among other criteria.
More than 61 million people around the world have or have had the coronavirus and more than 1.4 million people have died from the virus.
Nearly 13 million people in the United States have or have had the coronavirus, and more than 264,000 people have died from the infection.
