Ohio State is the latest high-performance college football team to cancel a game due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
Today’s Buckeyes game in Illinois has been called off and Ohio State has announced it will suspend all football activities due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests on the football team .
Ohio State coach Ryan Day had previously confirmed he had tested positive and would not be training. But after Day tested positive, further tests came back positive and the school decided she couldn’t play at all.
The Ohio State No.4 has now canceled two games this season, with his game against Maryland also being called off due to a COVID-19 outbreak in Maryland. Under Big Ten rules, Ohio state would not be eligible for the Big Ten Championship game if it does not play its remaining two games, against Michigan State and Michigan. College football playoffs have no requirement on the number of games a team must play to qualify for the four-team playoffs, but the state of Ohio failing to qualify for its own conference championship could get the playoff committee to decide to exclude the state of Ohio from the playoffs.
