The state’s health department said its vaccination app will go live on Thursday so you can sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine once your group is eligible.
“We originally planned to use an app provided by the CDC,” Assistant Health Commissioner Keith Reed said. “When they got to the point of deploying it, it didn’t quite meet our needs.”
Since the CDC app was not what state leaders wanted, they started working with Microsoft to create a new app. The state said the CDC app would have forced the entire state to use the app while enticing many vendors to learn a new system.
“When you have little time to set it up, you have occasional delays,” Reed said. “We weren’t going to wait for technology to give us the green light to move forward.”
While many Oklahomans live without internet services, the state said they are working to bridge the gap.
“One of the things I think we are looking at is limiting the number of appointments taken through the app, for example. Then set aside a number of appointments that can be obtained by others. needs to try and help those who don’t have access to the technology application, ”Reed said.
The app will verify the Oklahoma residence and allow you to book a reservation statewide.
“We do not limit residency status to a particular county to get vaccinated. A lot of people go to work and there are a number of circumstances, ”Reed said.
The state said the only way to get the vaccine was to make an appointment.
