The Bockfest Boys closed the Oktoberfest 2021 celebration at the Best Western Plus on Saturday night. The group managed to fill the dance floor.

At NUACS Pumpkinfest, families were able to choose their pumpkins. Lori Mathiowetz and her daughters Eve and Penny choose a cart full of gourds.

The 2021 Pumpkin Smash Demonstration Derby opened with a special chest or treat. The children at the derby were able to visit the drivers of the demonstration cars and were given sweets before the show.

Andy Miller and Jen Hanevik have fun at Oktoberfest. Miller said the Concord Singers had one of the best Saturday afternoon audiences they’ve had in 20 years. It was Hanevik’s second Oktoberfest in New Ulm. She is originally from Mendota, Minnesota, but was thrilled to return to New Ulm for the festivities.

Alan “Smiley” Wiltscheck met Hank Stehle (right) and John Stehle (left) before taking the stage with the Bockfest Boys. Wiltscheck became friends with the Stehle brothers after meeting Hank several years ago at a previous Oktoberfest. The Stehle brothers live in Colorado and travel to New Ulm every year for Oktoberfest. Hank said that within days of first meeting Wiltscheck in New Ulm, he ran into him again at a Colorado gas station. It was almost as if they were meant to meet.

Kollin Kerr of Minneapolis became the man to beat in Stein Holding’s August School Brewery competition on Saturday. He was the first winner of the day with a time of three minutes and 51 seconds. It was Kerr’s first stein outfit contest. He said the secret was to have a strong back.

Mankato’s Dustin Shank successfully places the Jenga Block on top of the tower. The oversized Jenga Tower is a popular feature at Schell’s Oktoberfest event.

The Concord Singers led a hall full of Oktoberfest spectators in learning the German language through song.

The crowd at the Best Western Plus waves their cell phones to music as the Concord Singers perform on the main stage.
