Old copy of Windows Core OS for Polaris hull leaks

An older copy of the Polaris, the version of Windows Core OS designed for laptops, has leaked onto the internet, WC reports.

The version is designed for ARM-based devices and is dated 2018, so unfortunately it lacks a shell or some cool apps.

The version can currently be downloaded from Archive.org and is PolarisOS Build 16299 (ARM32).

“It’s PolarisOS. This is a canceled edition of the Windows Core operating system that was designed for desktops and laptops. This image is early enough that it doesn’t include much more than the operating system itself. It comes without a shell and will not load any.
You need an ARM device to boot, and you need to side load the drivers before the first boot. The wim is bootable, but you can also install it directly by applying index 1.

To install on a phone instead of an arm tablet, go to catalog.update.microsoft.com, find the latest firmware for your phone, download all the relevant MainOS cabinets, put them all in a folder, and run dism / Image: / Add-Package / PackagePath:

To install on an arm tablet, get the tablet drivers and run dism / Image: / Add-Driver / Driver: / Recurse

On startup, pressing the power button will shut down the device, connecting the device via USB will expose a diagnostic interface that you can use to open a command prompt afterwards

The build is just a curiosity now, but it’s worth noting that after a lot of management changes, it’s the desktop version of Windows Core OS that will be the one that gets to devices at the end of it. , after versions for dual-screen smartphones, dual-screen laptops and the Surface Hub have all been canceled.
