OLMSTED COUNTY, Minnesota (KTTC) – Due to high vaccination rates in Olmsted County, health officials say they’re not too worried about those vaccinated, but as all 50 states are seeing a COVID-19 delta variant cases increase, some cities across the country are even considering reinstating a mask warrant.
“We have been very successful as a community in coming together and protecting each other. As long as we continue to do this, we are protecting ourselves against some of the harshest impacts we have seen, ”said Olmsted County Director of Utilities. Graham Briggs Health.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health and Olmsted County, vaccines have been the most effective in reducing the rate of COVID-19 cases and, so far, protect vaccinated people from all known variants.
“I think the current situation is very regional or compartmentalized, so here in Olmsted County, for example, the rate of cases that we are seeing here locally is extremely low,” Briggs said.
Currently, nearly 80% of eligible residents of Olmsted County have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
“For those who are not vaccinated, I think it is wise to consider wearing a mask when you are on the move,” Rochester Mayor Kim Norton said.
While the mask warrants are no longer in place for the City of Rochester, Mayor Norton will reconsider them if absolutely necessary.
“If any breakthroughs were happening in people who have been vaccinated in our community, we would definitely think about it,” Norton said.
If there is a spike in infection in Olmsted County, that could all change. County health officials say they will continue to monitor the virus for any changes.
