One-third of parents said reuniting with family members on Thanksgiving was worth the risk of coronavirus, poll finds

For one in three parents, the risk of coronavirus does not increase the profits of a family reunion on Thanksgiving, according to a survey.

In a report from the CS Mott Children’s Hospital of Michigan Medicine, based on responses received in August from parents with at least one child under the age of 13, about a third of parents said that “the benefits of getting together as a family on Thanksgiving are worth the risk of spreading or getting COVID-19. ”

Sixty-one percent of parents said they plan to celebrate Thanksgiving in person with their extended family, although about 2 in 3 parents said they plan not to include family members “who don’t.” have not practiced COVID-19 precautions, “according to the survey.

The United States has recorded a total of more than 12 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University. Experts have warned that the United States is in a third massive wave of coronavirus cases as more people spend time indoors due to the cold weather and more Americans are likely to make riskier decisions because they experience “pandemic fatigue” due to a prolonged loss of normality.

Amid the alarming number of new daily coronavirus cases across the country, the CDC has warned Americans against travel during the Thanksgiving vacation. In recent weeks, many states across the country have announced tighter travel and assembly restrictions, as Business Insider’s Yelena Dzhanova reported, and some governors have changed course from their original stance to apply new mask mandates.

Even so, a survey showed that about 40% of Americans said they had planned in-person gatherings for Thanksgiving. More than 3 million people passed through airport security checkpoints between Friday and Sunday according to the Transportation Security Administration, and photos and videos have shown airport terminals packed with people.

Many public health experts, including the country’s leading infectious disease specialist, Dr Anthony Fauci, have said he will not be spending Thanksgiving with his adult children this year.
