TL; DR

  • New high-quality renderings of the OnePlus 9RT have surfaced from a trusted source.
  • The phone looks like a mashup of the 9R and 9 Pro.
  • OnePlus has said there will be no T-series phone this year, so we’re confused.

In September, OnePlus disclosed its grand global plan for “OnePlus 2.0”. During that announcement, we learned – directly from co-founder and CEO Pete Lau – that there won’t be a company’s T-series phone this year.

It was an interesting statement, given that we’ve heard plenty of rumors about the OnePlus 9RT before. Now we have what appear to be official press renders of this phone from a reliable leaker. Evan blass. Will there finally be a T-series phone?

Latest OnePlus 9RT renderings

The renderings suggest that the OnePlus 9RT could be a mix of the OnePlus 9R and the OnePlus 9 Pro. Theoretically, the phone would be better in some cases than the 9R, but not as good as the OnePlus 9, and certainly not as good as the OnePlus 9 Pro.

If this sounds confusing to you, it’s because it is confusing. That’s why when Pete Lau said that there won’t be a T-Series phone in 2021, it made a lot of sense. However, maybe Lau was only referring to the main phones, in other words, the OnePlus 9T and OnePlus 9T Pro. You’d think the 9R would matter too, but these renders certainly seem to be for a phone the company is considering launching.

Keep in mind that the OnePlus 9R only landed in India and China, so it would make sense for the OnePlus 9RT to land there as well. As such, people in other countries will need to focus on the main 9 Series phones for now.

It’s also possible that these renders were intended for a phone that OnePlus had planned to launch but was canned at the last minute. If the phone comes out, however, it must arrive soon, as there isn’t much left from 2021. For what it’s worth, Blass says the phone could land on October 13.
